How we work
Upfynd exists to answer one question honestly: which software is worth your time? This page sets out exactly how a product earns its place, who checks what goes live, and the few rules that nothing, paid or otherwise, can bend.
The mechanics
On Launches, category pages, tag pages and the directory, the product with the most upvotes comes first. Every list can also be sorted by newest or by rating. Nothing else moves a product up.
You need an account to upvote, and you get one upvote per product. Press the triangle to vote, press it again to take the vote back. Your upvotes are listed on your profile.
A product's rating is the average of the star ratings in its published reviews. Each person counts once. A review that has been removed stops counting.
A review is one person's own experience with the product. Makers cannot review their own product, but they can reply, and their replies are labelled "Maker".
The Featured section on the home page is picked by the Upfynd team. Featuring a product does not change its upvotes or its position in any list.
Anything paid for says "Sponsored" where it appears. It never changes rankings, votes, ratings or reviews, and there are no vote packs or ranking boosts to buy.
Review and moderation
Automation helps us find duplicates and spam, but the decisions are made by a person who has looked at the product. That is slower than a rubber stamp, and it is why a listing here means something.
Questions about moderationNew submissions and claims wait in a queue until a reviewer has opened the website, checked the listing says plainly what the product does, and confirmed it is not a duplicate. Usually that takes under two working days.
Reviews and replies go live immediately. Spam, abuse, reviews of your own product and anything paid for are taken down when they are found or reported.
Anyone can report a listing or a review from the support page. A reviewer reads it, looks at the page, and acts on what they find, from a correction to a takedown.
If a submission is rejected or a claim is declined, the email says why. Reply through support and the same team looks again.
Data and independence
To be useful from day one, the directory also includes products we found in public places: the product's own website and public software directories. We write those descriptions ourselves and mark the listing unclaimed until its makers claim it.
If your product is listed and you would rather it was not, tell us from an email address on the product's domain and we take it down by hand. If you want it, claim it for free and the page is yours to edit.
We do not sell personal data or run advertising networks. Analytics load only after you accept them. What we collect and why is written out in the privacy policy.
The binding versions of these rules are the terms of service, the privacy policy and the community guidelines.
A fake review, a wrong fact, a listing that should not be here: tell us and a person looks at it.
