WireGuard is a free, open VPN protocol known for being small and quick. It creates encrypted tunnels between devices using public-key cryptography, similar in spirit to how SSH keys work, and in Linux it runs inside the kernel. The codebase is short enough for people to audit. System administrators use it to link servers, connect remote staff to offices and build private networks, and many commercial VPN services run on it. Clients exist for Linux, Windows, macOS, Android and iOS.
