OpenRouteService is a set of routing and spatial APIs based on OpenStreetMap data. It offers directions for driving, cycling and walking, isochrones, matrix calculations, geocoding and altitude data. The project is run by the Heidelberg Institute for Geoinformation Technology at Heidelberg University, and the code is open source. Developers use it for logistics, accessibility analysis and travel apps, and can host it themselves. A free API key supports limited daily requests.
