Nmap, short for Network Mapper, is a free tool for discovering hosts and services on a network. It sends probes to learn which ports are open, what software answers, and what operating system a machine runs. System administrators use it for inventories and audits, and security testers use it in the first stage of an assessment. It runs on Linux, Windows, macOS, FreeBSD and other Unix systems, with a command-line interface and an official graphical front end.
