1 / 5Hoodmaps is a crowdsourced map that divides a city into neighborhoods by character. It covers New York City and is for people who want a quick, informal read on an area before they visit or move. Each area carries a short, tongue-in-cheek label. The labels cover places such as Foley Square, Financial District, Tribeca, Chinatown, Little Italy, Nolita, Hudson Square and Essex Market, along with Brooklyn Heights, Cobble Hill and the NYU campus area. Neighborhoods are sorted into groups such as hipsters, tourists, rich, suits and university areas, so the map works as a guide to the feel of each part of the city.
