Creative Commons offers a set of licences that creators attach to their work. They let an author loosen the usual restrictions of copyright, for example by allowing reuse with credit, rather than reserving every right. Photographers, writers and educators use these licences to share work legally and clearly. The licences give readers a plain statement of what they may do, so nobody has to email an author for permission each time they want to reuse a piece of work.
