Quitter, from developer Marco Arment, watches your Mac for apps you have not touched in a while. After a time limit you set, it hides the app or quits it, so tempting windows such as social media or chat stay out of the way. You choose which apps are covered and how long each can sit idle. The tool is open source, small and runs quietly in the menu bar. People who lose focus to leftover windows, or want to free memory, use it as a gentle nudge.
