PlantNet, also written Pl@ntNet, is a free app and website that identifies plants from pictures. Users photograph a leaf, flower or fruit, and the app suggests the most likely species from a reference database. It is also a citizen science project, because observations that users share help researchers map plant biodiversity. The project was developed by French research institutes and covers regions around the world. It suits gardeners, hikers and students who are curious about the plants they find.
