Teams that need to search logs, documents or embeddings can run OpenSearch themselves. It is a community-driven, Apache 2.0 licensed suite that began as a fork of Elasticsearch 7.10.2 and Kibana 7.10.2. The suite includes the search engine itself plus OpenSearch Dashboards for visualization. Beyond keyword relevance with BM25, it supports filters, aggregations and k-NN vector search in the same stack, and it can be deployed in serverless form. OpenSearch is free to use, with AWS among its backers.
