LiveJournal is one of the earliest blogging communities. Users keep a journal, post entries, comment on friends' updates and join communities around shared interests. The service launched in the 1990s and is now owned by a Russian company, where it keeps an active audience of Russian-language bloggers. A free account offers basic features with ads, and paid accounts remove ads and add extra styling and storage. Its friends list and community model influenced later social platforms. It remains a place for longer personal writing.
