HealthCare.gov is the federal website where Americans compare and enroll in health insurance under the Affordable Care Act. People in states that use the federal exchange apply for coverage, see their eligibility for subsidies and pick a plan. The site includes tools to check which plans cover a doctor or drug and to estimate monthly costs. Enrollment happens within yearly open enrollment windows or after qualifying life events. It is run by the US government, and for many uninsured or self-employed people it is the starting point for finding individual health coverage.
