GraphQL is a query language and runtime for APIs, created at Facebook and now maintained as an open specification. Instead of many fixed endpoints, a server publishes a typed schema, and clients send a query describing the exact data they want, receiving a response in the same shape. This avoids over-fetching on mobile and makes it easier to combine data from several services behind one endpoint. Libraries exist for JavaScript, Python, Java, Go and many other languages. The graphql.org site hosts the specification, tutorials and tools.
