About Genius
Genius is a music encyclopedia built around song lyrics. Fans, an in-house team and the artists themselves add annotations that explain the meaning of a line, a verse or a whole song. The site holds lyrics for more than 1.7 million songs, and it also covers videos and music knowledge beyond hip-hop. Searching for a track or browsing what is trending brings up its annotated lyrics. Genius started in 2009 as a site for annotating rap verses. It now serves music knowledge to more than 100 million people each month, and artists such as Frank Ocean and Lin-Manuel Miranda have explained their own work on the site.
