Docker is a container platform for building, sharing and running applications in isolated, reproducible environments. Developers use it so software behaves the same on every machine, and operators use it to run several apps side by side. Apps are packaged with their dependencies into portable containers using Dockerfiles and images. Docker Compose coordinates multi-container applications, and Docker Hub hosts a large library of pre-built images. Docker Desktop adds a graphical interface on Mac and Windows. The platform is open source and is used for local development, CI/CD pipelines and production deployments.
