AWS Lambda is Amazon Web Services' serverless compute service that runs code in response to events. Developers upload a function in Python, Node.js, Java, Go and other runtimes, connect it to triggers such as an API request, a file upload or a queue message, and AWS runs it on demand, scaling from nothing to many parallel calls. Billing counts requests and execution time, so idle functions cost nothing, which makes it popular for APIs, data processing and automation. It integrates with the rest of AWS for storage, databases and monitoring.
